Selling on Mercari Review & Tips

Selling on Mercari can be rewarding for experienced sellers who are trying to expand their customer base outside of eBay, Poshmark, Etsy…, and new sellers who are trying to get rid of extra items sitting in their garages.

Mercari is an online marketplace where buyers and sellers can buy and sell almost anything (Toys, Clothing, Electronics…) thru a website using a computer or an app using a smart phone.

Mercari App Statistics:

• Downloads: 45M + in the US

Unlike some of the traditional online selling platforms, Mercari doesn’t charge its sellers a store fee. It keeps its services (Signing up, Listing items, Sending offers…) free until a sale transaction is completed.

What Percentage Does Mercari Take?

When a sale transaction is complete, Mercari charges 2 type of fees: a selling fee and a payment processing fee.

• Selling fee= 10%
• Payment processing fee= 2.9%+$0.30

Below are some of the reasons that helped me decide to start selling on the platform:

3.1- Ease of Use:

Mercari’s ease of use is one of its advantages that attracts buyers who are searching for deals, new sellers with few items to sell, and experienced sellers looking for more customers.

3.2- Low Fees:

It is free to sign up and list your items on the platform, no need for a store or the fees associated with it.

When you make a sale, Mercari will deduct a total of (12.9%+$0.30) from the amount the buyer paid.

(12.9%+$0.30)= 10% selling fee + (2.9%+$0.30) payment processing fee.

Mercari fees for sellers are straightforward and competitive.

3.3- Promotional Tools:

Mercari’s automatic pricing tool is one of the promotional tools that the platform offers to its sellers to manage prices automatically and save time.

To use this pricing tool, a seller decides 2 prices for an item. An initial listing price and a minimum price. The app will then drop the initial price by 5% automatically based upon demand until the item is sold or reaches the floor price.

Mercari also offers additional promotional tools to promote your listings and send offers to people who like your listings.

By clicking the “PROMOTE” button at the bottom of each listing you have the options to ‘Promote‘ or to send ‘Offers to Likers‘.

• When you promote a listing you are reducing the price publicly by at least 5% which will boost your listing and notify people who have liked your item.
• If you choose to send offers to likers you are sending a reduced price ONLY to the people who have liked your listing.

Follow these steps to block someone on Mercari:

• Visit Mercari.com.
• Sign In to your account.
• Click the profile picture of the user you want to block.
• Click the three dot icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
• Tap “Block User” from the pop-up list.

4.2- How to Hide Sold Items on Mercari?

Follow these simple steps to hide sold items on Mercari:

• Visit MERCARI.COM.
• Sign In to your account.
• Click your profile picture.
• Select My Listings.
• In the left sidebar, Click Complete.
• Find the sold item you want to delete, then click View Order.
• Click Remove this Listing.

4.3- How to Increase Sales on Mercari?

Selling on Mercari is easy, but making more sales needs some work.
