Mercari Selling App New Fees Charged to the Seller for Each Sale:
Mercari Selling App New Fees (Transaction and Payment Fees) are 2.9% plus $0.30 for each payment received from a buyer for a completed sale. This fee is applied regardless of the form of payment received from the buyer.
What Percentage Does Mercari Take?
By adding the 10% selling fee that Mercari already charges on each sale to the new fees Mercari just added (2.9% + $0.30 transaction processing fees). Mercari will charge sellers a total of 12.9% + $0.30 each time an item is sold and a transaction is completed.
What To Do?
As a seller in most of online ecommerce platforms (Ebay, Mercari, Poshmark…), I understand that I don’t have much control over my stores and expect sudden changes of rules and terms of use, accounts suspensions, increased fees…I just don’t understand why these marketplaces don’t try to get our feedback before introducing a change to at least find out how increasing fees for example can affect our sales, and how complicated it is to adapt our business to the new changes.
Solution? I’m not going to suggest that you move your store to Shopify now because of the monthly fee and the extra cost of buying templates, or to start you own store using WordPress and Woocommerce plugin now unless you have some knowledge on how to create a website and you can afford the cost of advertising your store.
Some Actions you can start taking to protect your business in the future:
- Start learning how to create your own store to have complete control over your business in the future. It’s a process so start now.
- Consider using the cheapest solution: WordPress and Woocommerce plugin to create a store.
- Start creating your customer’s list now in your social media accounts to direct them to your new store when it’s ready. You can skip this step if you can afford the high cost of advertising.
- Think about better ways while outsourcing to minimize your cost. You can replace Goodwill stores where you buy cheap items with Goodwill Outlet stores where you can buy even cheaper merchandise per the pound for example.
- Start cross-listing your merchandise in all online selling platforms. That will help you reach more customers and avoid loosing your business completely when one marketplace suspends your account or make some major changes that hurt your business.
- Finally avoid advise from sellers who are complaining about increased fees. We may not be happy about it but every seller should know that they don’t own their stores when they create them on a marketplace such as Amazon, eBay, Mercari, Poshmark… Stay positive, stay focused, think about ways to improve your business and Good Luck.
