Are you trying to start selling on Poshmark but not sure how?

The goal of this article is to provide you with tips on how to sell and increase your sales on Poshmark.

1- What is Poshmark?

Poshmark is a social online marketplace where buyers and sellers can easily and securely buy and sell men’s, women’s and kids clothing and accessories, and home goods.

To start selling on Poshmark, sign up and start listing your items immediately on their website or on the Poshmark app, but expect to be more involved in the Poshmark community to make sales.

Poshmark is not a “List it and Forget it” type of platform like Ebay and Mercari, but if you are willing to do a little more work than just listing items on the platform, you can benefit from its social aspect and increase your sales.

How to Sell & Make Money on Poshmark?

There are 3 types of poshers:

– Buyers: For buyers, the poshmark app is a good way to find high end clothes for a discounted price. They can browse the app anytime and search for items they are looking for by brand, category, size…

– Sellers cleaning up their closets: Sellers getting rid of clothes that don’t fit anymore don’t need to spend too much time socializing on the app. They only need to connect with poshers who are interested in the same category, brand, size, or fashion style.

Sellers (Individuals/Businesses) who are reselling used and new clothes for profit: Online resellers using poshmark to make profit have to work harder to make sales, because they have to spend countless hours trying to source high end clothing items for cheap and listing them on the poshmark app, in addition to their daily tasks such as following other members, sharing other members closets, and sharing their own listings to their followers and to Poshmark parties.

Tips:

Consider applying or at least testing some of the following tips on your Poshmark closet to increase your sales:

1- Finding the right merchandise that sells fast for the right price: It is important to know what brands are in demand and sell fast on poshmark, and how much they sell for before you start sourcing your merchandise (I remember my excitement few years ago while listing some nice shirts that cost me 50 cents each at my local goodwill outlet, I was really thinking I was going to make a profit, just to find out that not too many poshers visit the app to purchase some random nice used shirt. Most poshers are looking for specific brands. Usually high end brands).

Suggestions of Brands you can sell on Poshmark:

Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Nike, coach, Michael Kors, Chanel, Christian Louboutin, Lululemon, Balenciaga, Dooney and Bourke, Kate spade, saint Laurent, Air Jordan, Dr Martens, Adidas, All Saints, bcbg, Brooks, Comme Des garcons, Converse, Ferragamo, Fossil, Hermes, Lilly Pulitzer, Lucky Brand, Ralph Lauren, Sorel, Ted Baker, Toms, Tory Burch…

2- Listing Frequently: Listing more frequently updates your closet and keeps it at the top of the search results.

I understand that we all have jobs and other circumstances that keep us busy, but if you have 12 items to sell for example, take your photos, get your listings ready, save them as drafts in your day off, then list 3 items everyday for 4 days. That will have a better impact on your closet than listing all 12 items in 1 day.

3- Quality of your Listing: When I mentioned at the start of this article that It was easy to list on Poshmark, I meant that it was easy to upload photos and to add a title and some information about your item in your new listing.

But to make more sales, it is important to help the potential customer make a purchase decision.

  • Make sure you use the maximum number of photos allowed by Poshmark to show all angles of your item and reflect it’s real condition.
  • Take photos of your item in a place with good lighting.
  • Include photos of any damage.
  • Avoid adding other items that distract the potential customers from the item you are selling.
  • Try to use a white background when you can.
  • Add a keyword focused title. I Usually add brand, category (Dress for example) Size and color.
  • Avoid long and boring descriptions and focus on what the potential customers need to know. Tell them about the item’s brand, category, size, color, measurement…, and never forget to describe any damage or flaws that you showed in your photos.
  • Add materials and the country of origin where your item was made.
  • Select the correct category of your item.

4- Following + Sharing: Following other poshers is very important because most of them will follow you back. By increasing the number of your closet’s  followers, you are also increasing the number of potential customers that will see your listings and the chances to make sales.

The same rule applies to sharing other poshers listings to your followers, because most of them will share your listings to their followers and increase your chances to make more sales.

Following other poshers and sharing their listings, in addition to sharing your listings to parties everyday helps you stay active in the community and make more sales.

5- Pricing your Items right: Many factors influence how you decide the price of an item, including the price you paid for it, the brand, your competition prices, Poshmark fee…

To make a profit, you price should be equal to = Cost of the item (how much you purchased it for) + Poshmark Fee + Associated cost (Cleaning for example) + Discount (Discount from Offer you send or you accept from customers) + Profit ( How much Profit you are expecting) + Shipping Cost (Only when offering free shipping).

6- Customer Service: Good customer service will help you get more returning customers to your closet, and win the trust of more poshers with the good feedback and the 5 star rating you receive from happy customers.

To provide good customer service, answer curious customers questions on time, respond to your customers requests, ship your sold items fast and add a personal touch by sending a Thank you card to your customers.
