I’ve read many articles online and seen many youtube videos spreading negativity among ebay resellers by claiming that sales on the platform are slowing down and that eBay is not a good platform anymore for online resellers to make money???
With more than 185 million active buyers, eBay is one of the world’s leading marketplaces and a good marketplace for any online reseller to make money.
In this post, I will share with you how I make sales on eBay everyday and how I manage to increase my ebay sales.
Some reasons why your eBay sales are slow?
To increase your sales on eBay, you should first determine the reasons that affect your store’s performance negatively.
The answers to these questions should help you determine the real reason(s) why your eBay sales are slow?
- Are you selling items that are in demand?
- Are you selling seasonal products?
- Are you satisfied with the quality of your listings?
- Are you adding all the descriptive requirements in your listings?
- Do you add the right keywords in your titles and descriptions?
- Are your prices competitive?
- Are you accumulating bad feedback and ratings because of poor customer service?
How to avoid slow eBay sales?
- Sell items that are in demand. You can search your local area to find items that eBay buyers are looking for a fraction of the cost. Some of these places are:
- Goodwill stores
- Goodwill Outlet stores (where you can buy merchandise per the lbs)
- Consignment shops
- Pawn Shops
- Thrift stores
- Salvation Army stores and auctions
- Facebook Groups
- Storage auctions
- Local auctions
- Curated second-hand shops
- Discount Retail stores (TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Ross…)
- Online Liquidation stores (customer returns in bulk)
- Regular stores (many high end brands offer huge discounts in certain days of the year because of season change or holiday…)
- Garage sales
- Yard sales
- Estate sales
- Church sales
- School sales
- Craiglist
- Offer Up or Let Go Apps
- Outlet Malls
- Online Stores.
- List more frequently: Listing frequently will increase your sales and give your customers more options to choose from. I found out that listing everyday has an immediate positive effect on my sales. If you are part time seller who can only list once or twice a week, try to list a few items and schedule the other drafts to be listed automatically to make sure your store has fresh listings everyday of the week.
- Improve the quality of your listings: A good quality listing that has a sufficient number of photos (preferably 12), a complete description of the item including any defects and a complete list of item’s specifics will have a higher click through and conversion rates. You can apply this to new listings and older listings that you can improve before relisting.
Include keywords in your titles and descriptions: It is important to think like a buyer when you create your title and description to figure out what keywords buyers will be using when searching for your item. The most common keywords to include in titles and descriptions are brand, gender, size, color and condition.
Including keywords in your listing will increase the chances for your listing to rank high in the search results.
Make you prices competitive: eBay buyers looking for deals will sort items by price “low to high”, which will help your listing show up at the top of the search results if your price is competitive.
It is important to review older listings to make sure that your prices are still competitive.
Offer good customer service: Customers can be demanding sometimes, but you can’t get frustrated simply because a customer is asking too many questions. I’ve had customers who were very demanding, but because I was patient and went out of my way to help them, they’ve followed my eBay store and became repeat customers who keep coming back and buying more items from my store.
Having a customer base will help you keep making sales even when “sales are slow”.
Good customer service will also help you accumulate good feedback and ratings, which will enable potential customers to trust you and make a purchase from your ebay store.
Avoid defects: Cancelling orders, late shipping of sold items and not resolving buyers disputes are all defects that can affect your store and sales negatively in addition to losing your top rated status that encourages customers to trust you and purchase from your eBay store. It is important to avoid or at least keep the number of defects low to avoid limitations on your account.
Selling items that are in demand at a low price, listing more frequently, improving the quality of your new and older listings and offering good customer service are all factors that will help you increase your eBay sales.
