Mercari Local - How Does It Work?

Good news for online resellers. Mercari announced the start of Mercari Local, a new way for Mercari sellers to sell locally without the need to print labels, go to the post office, meet buyers or even leave the comfort of their own homes.

How Does Mercari Local Work for Sellers?

Mercari partnered with Uber to bring the reliability and experience of the rideshare company to local selling and shopping.

  1. List an item (by selecting Mercari Local in the delivery section of the listing).
  2. Schedule the pickup (Once the item sells, Mercari will ask you to schedule a time for the Uber driver to come and pick it up).
  3. Place the item sold for pickup (The Uber driver will pick up the item at your chosen time).
  4. Get Paid (No changes here. You get paid when the buyer rates the transaction).

How Much Does It Cost?

The buyer pays for delivery starting at $7.99.

Listing on the app will remain free, Mercari charges a fee only when an item is sold and a transaction is complete.

Mercari Fees:

Mercari charges sellers 2 types of fees:

  1. Seller Fee: a minimum of 10% of the item price for a completed sale.
  2. Payment Processing Fee: (2.9% + $0.30) based on the completed sale price of the item.

How To Switch your Existing Listings to Mercari Local?

To switch an existing listing, follow these simple steps:

  1. Click your profile Picture.
  2. Tap My Listings in the drop down menu.
  3. Select the listing.
  4. Click Edit.
  5. In the delivery method, Select Mercari Local to only sell locally or Mercari Local & shipping to sell locally and nationwide.
  6. Click Update.

Benefits of Mercari Local:

I’ve been a Mercari seller for few years and I’m satisfied with the app and its features. I like Mercari because it is easy to use, and allows me to sell almost anything (Clothing, DVDs, Electronics…), negotiate with buyers by sending them offers and receiving theirs, communicate with potential buyers, and pay a fee only when I sell an item and the transaction is complete.

I’ve been thinking to start selling locally but I didn’t for safety and privacy reasons. With Mercari Local I can start selling locally.

Benefits for Sellers:

  1. Sell heavier items (that weigh less than 50 lbs and fit into the trunk of a car (45″ x 35″ x 15″)).
  2. Deliver quickly to customers.
  3. Buyers pay for delivery.
  4. No need to meet a stranger. An Uber driver comes to your pick up address and picks up the item sold.
  5. Schedule item pick up based on your availability.
  6. Your address won’t be shared with buyers.
  7. No need to print labels or go to the post office.
  8. Mercari seller’s protection.
